Today's Run

I've just popped out for a short run and thought I'd document it for everyone to share.

First, the planned route:

758780173

As you can see, it's not a popular route today, so it should be a nice quiet run.

I set off with good intentions, sadly any chances of actually running were soon stifled by the 9 inches of snow I quickly encountered...

So I turned back and headed for home, leaving nothing behind me but my foot prints.

Yes folks, I went for a run (read trudge) barefoot in the snow. Sadly, it wasn't a long one - all of 5 meters at the very most - and not really running, but it was enjoyable none-the-less. One thing is for sure, I thought my feet were cold before I went out, now they feel positively roasting now I'm back.

  1. Have you had a lot of experience barefooting in the snow?

I usually run in vibrams, but in this weather I've been using my trail shoes. I'd love take them out in the snow, but you never know when you're going to find a broken bottle around here.

  2. Unfortunately not. I've not been brave enough to head out much beyond our front lawn in the snow we've had. I'm not particularly worried about broken bottles etc as the roads and pavements are generally quite clean anyway, it's more a fear of falling on my face or stepping into a hole. Maybe next time it snows ;-)

  3. Yeah, holes are another thing to take into account. Cold injuries could be a problem to. I've had that numb feeling on cold days, I guess it depends if your feet warm-up on the run. I know some people have used VFF Flows with toe-ed socks for winter alpine runs.

We used to pull a old pair of socks on over our climbing boots if the rock was really wet, works walking on ice too. Maybe socks would give you enough grip to keep upright.

    Good luck. :)
